Released in late October 2016, just in time for Halloween, Attack of the Zombies is Genesis Gaming’s entry for the spookiest season of the year. It has everything you would want for that sort of theme. A graveyard backdrop, zombies all over the place, and a group of amazing survivors ready to make things happen so they can survive the shambling hordes around them.
No such luck for our heroines, however, as in order to access this 5 reel, 50 payline slots bonuses, you have to go down the path of infection and chase after the cure. The cure will turn them back to normal, and give them Wild status, persisting until everyone is healed. A strong special if you can get it. But does the game hold up? Let’s find out.
The symbols in this slot are fantastically done, colourful and upbeat with a variety to them. Sure, the lower paying icons are all zombies, but the different way they’re drawn and the funny clothing on them truly makes them come to unlife. Higher paying symbols include our four survivors, and the same vibe comes off from them as well. A diverse cast of characters helps makes them different in looks, even though they all pay exactly the same.
Finally, we have Scatters and Wilds. Wilds appear as a brain on the reels, and can substitute for any other icon on the reels, where as Scatter wins are multiplier by the total wager, and they pay in any position. And, as is expected by now, Scatters are used to trigger the bonus features.
The backdrop for this game is fine enough, but the large screen space the reels occupy make it less visible. It is static, with not much going on there, and we could definitely pick out a better place to be in a zombie apocalypse that is not a graveyard. But, there is where you and your fellow survivors are, and that is where you must make your stand.
Thanks to the non-fixed paylines and adjustable bet levels, you are able to play Attack of the Zombies for as little as $0.01 up to $500, making this an interesting slot for both high and low rollers.
There is only one bonus feature in this game, but it is definitely a satisfying one. Getting three or more Scatters will activate the Antidote Free Spins. Your high paying symbols become zombified, and you keep spinning for free until you get an antidote.
Each time you get an antidote, it cures one of your survivors, and in turn, makes them temporarily into Wilds. This lasts until the end of the free spins, and depending on your luck, it can really get drawn out and secure a massive win for you.
Outside of the bonus rounds, the payoff tends to be small unless you are playing for large sums of money, and at that point it truly can feel like too much of a risk.
And while the 96.372% return to player is nice, sometimes the slot can slow down to a crawl where nothing is happening. Wilds help break it up, but bad luck is bad luck.
Attack of the Zombies has one of the better mobile ports that we have played. Thanks to the HTML5 optimisation, you can play it from any device, without need for download, and it does not slow down your devices like some other games tend to.
It keeps similar graphics, the exact same gameplay, and a user interface adjusted for touch controls and smaller screens. If you love this slot and do not want to be separated from it, you can play it anywhere you want to go.
